IPTV not working? Find the fault in ten minutes

When IPTV is not working, find out which of three things has failed before you touch anything: your internet, the app, or the service. Open any other streaming app. If that works, restart the IPTV app and check the login. If every channel fails but other apps play fine, message your provider. Ten minutes, in that order.
This is the checklist I run with people on WhatsApp every day. It’s for anyone whose telly was fine yesterday and is a blank screen, a spinning wheel or an error today. Work down it in order and stop when something fixes it.
Is it the internet, the app, or the service?
Everything else depends on this one question, so answer it first. Open YouTube, Netflix, anything that streams. Three outcomes:
- Nothing streams. It’s your internet. Skip to the connection section.
- Other apps work, every IPTV channel fails. It’s the app or the service. Keep reading in order.
- Other apps work, one or two channels fail. It’s the service, and it’s a single feed. Jump to the last section and message us.
What if nothing on the TV will stream?
Restart the router. Pull the plug, count thirty, plug it back in and give it two minutes. That fixes a surprising share of “IPTV is down” messages, because the router had simply been on for a month.
Then check the Wi-Fi. A stick in the bedroom two walls from the router can show full bars and still not hold a stream. Move closer, use the 5 GHz network if your router has one, or run a cable. If the problem only shows up on busy evenings, the Saturday night buffering post covers exactly why and what to do.
For reference, Netflix’s own help page puts Full HD at 5 Mbps and 4K at 15 Mbps as a minimum. Live sport needs more headroom than a film, so treat 10 and 25 as the realistic floors.
What if the app opens but shows no channels?
Nine times out of ten this is the login, not the service. Check these in the app’s playlist or login screen:
- Server address. It must start with http:// not https://, and have no space on the end. Copying from WhatsApp sometimes drags a space along.
- Username and password. Both are case-sensitive. A capital letter where there should be a small one means no channels.
- Expired plan. Plans don’t renew by themselves. If the end date has passed, the app shows an empty list or a “subscription expired” message. Message us and we extend the same login.
If the details are right, delete the playlist in the app and add it again. Apps cache a broken list and keep showing it until you do.
What if channels load but won’t play?
Restart the device, not just the app. On a Firestick, hold Select and Play/Pause together for five seconds, or go to Settings, My Fire TV, Restart. On a smart TV, pull the power for thirty seconds. Phones and boxes: a normal restart.
Then try the HD version of the channel. Every popular channel comes in 4K, Full HD and HD. If HD plays and 4K doesn’t, your connection is the limit tonight, not the service.
Still nothing? Close every other app on the device. On older sticks, a second app running in the background is enough to stall playback.
What if it’s only one channel?
Then it’s on our side, and we can fix it in minutes. A single feed can go down, change, or get blocked by a UK broadband provider. Message us with the channel name, the device and the time it stopped. That’s genuinely all we need. “It’s not working” on its own means we have to ask those three questions anyway.
While you wait, the same channel usually exists in another quality or under a slightly different name in the list. Search for it.
The ten-minute order
| Minute | Do this | Fixes |
|---|---|---|
| 0 to 1 | Open another streaming app | Tells you whether it’s the internet |
| 1 to 3 | Restart the router, wait two minutes | Stale router, dropped connection |
| 3 to 5 | Check server address, username, password, plan end date | Empty channel list |
| 5 to 6 | Delete and re-add the playlist | Cached broken list |
| 6 to 8 | Restart the device, close other apps | Channels load but won’t play |
| 8 to 9 | Switch to the HD version of the channel | 4K too heavy for tonight’s connection |
| 9 to 10 | Message us: channel, device, time | A single feed, or anything above that didn’t work |
What not to do
Don’t factory reset the stick. It wipes every app and you’ll be reinstalling Downloader at half time. Don’t install a second IPTV player “to see if that works”; if the login is wrong, it’s wrong in every app. And don’t buy a new subscription from someone else because one channel dropped on a Saturday. That is the moment to send a message, not money.
Key takeaways
- Test another app first. It splits the problem in half before you touch anything.
- Empty channel list means login, almost always: http not https, no trailing space, exact capitals, plan not expired.
- Restart the router and the device, in that order, and give the router two minutes.
- Drop to HD when 4K stalls. The connection, not the service, is the limit that night.
- One dead channel is ours to fix. Send the name, device and time and we sort it.
Frequently asked questions
Is IPTV down right now?
Almost never all at once. If every channel has stopped for you, it’s far more likely to be your connection or an expired login than the service. Test another streaming app, then check the end date on your plan. If both are fine, message us and we’ll tell you straight away if a server has an issue.
Why does IPTV work on my phone but not on my TV?
Same login, different device, so it’s the device or its connection. The TV is usually on weaker Wi-Fi further from the router, or running an older app version. Restart the TV, move it to 5 GHz or a cable, and update the app from its store.
The app says “authentication failed”. What does that mean?
The server rejected the username or password. Retype both by hand rather than pasting, check the capitals, and make sure the server address starts with http://. If it still fails, your plan may have ended. Message us with your username and we check it in a minute.
Channels load but the TV guide is empty. Is that a fault?
No. Guide data downloads separately and can take a few minutes the first time. Leave the app open, or find the EPG refresh option in its settings. If the guide is still empty an hour later, delete and re-add the playlist.
Does restarting my Firestick delete anything?
No. A restart, from Settings or by holding Select and Play/Pause, just reboots it. Everything stays installed and logged in. A factory reset is a different menu item and does wipe the stick, so avoid that one.
How quickly can you fix a dead channel?
Usually within minutes once we know which one. We switch the feed or move you to another server. The slow part is finding out which channel it is, which is why the message should include the name, your device and the time it stopped.
